Bilbao & GUGGENHEIM daytrip

In the morning, we’ll wander through the Old Town, exploring historic gems like the first bank of Bilbao and La Plaza Nueva with its charming pintxo bars. We’ll also discover the new and modern side of Bilbao, a testament to its dynamic evolution. After a delightful lunch, it’s Guggenheim time! We’ll dive into the architectural marvel crafted by Frank Gehry before heading back home.

Old Bilbao vs New Bilbao:

Embark on a captivating journey through Bilbao’s captivating blend of history and modernity. Begin in El Arenal, the medieval shipyard district, where you’ll stroll along the romantic Arenal promenade, soaking in the charm of old Bilbao with landmarks like the San Nicolas church and the iconic Arriaga Theater. In the modern part, visit key spots such as the monument of Don Diego López de Haro, Gran Vía with its diverse facades, Moyua square, “fosteritos” (Norman Foster’s subway entrances), Palacio Chávarri, Hotel Carlton, the Church of San José facade, and the Alhóndiga.

Lunch & Guggenheim:

Following a light lunch in a very cool restaurant inside the museum (Bistro), immerse yourself in the avant-garde masterpiece—the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

Designed by Frank Gehry, it stands as a striking symbol of contemporary architecture. Explore the museum’s vast spaces on your own, housing both permanent works by artists like Richard Serra and rotating exhibitions.
